HistoriCorps Celebrates a Successful First Year!

On October 5, 2010 HistoriCorps celebrated the completion of its first field season at the beautiful Harris Ranch in the San Juan National Forest. The morning event included an overview of HistoriCorps’ accomplishments in the past year, highlighting the 39 structures rehabilitated in the past year alone! HistoriCorps Chair, Ann Pritzlaff of the President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and Jim Hare, Executive Director of Colorado Preservation, Inc., kicked off the event with exciting news regarding the successful first field season and the plans for the 2011 season. Partner Ann Baker-Easley, Executive Director of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, spoke about the power of people, with volunteers energized and excited to become further involved in historic preservation projects with HistoriCorps. Special thanks was given to our Forest Service partners, including Steve Sherwood, Terri Leistman and Doug Stephens with the Region 2 office of the United States Forest Service, who have been exceptional in their leadership in the development of HistoriCorps. Also acknowledged were representatives from the Grand Mesa-Uncompaghre-Gunnison National Forest and Rio Grande Forests for their project partnership (Alpine Guard Station and the Off Cow Camps) during HistoriCorps’ first year.

The event was a great closing to the 2010 field season as well as an exciting start to the 2011 field season  – with the first project being the Harris Ranch!
