Lookout Mountain Fire Lookout
Rehabilitation of the Lookout Mountain Fire Lookout
July 18 – 29, 2011
Location: The Lookout Mountain Fire Lookout is located near Stanley, Idaho in the Sawtooth National Forest.
History: Built in 1921 as a patrol point, the present cupola cabin was re-built in 1929. In 1939, a 50′ pole tower with an L-4 cab was added. The tower fell down in the 1960′s. In 1977 the bottom 20′ feet of the all-steel Packsaddle Tower was moved to the summit and a wooden live-in cab was built, and continues to be staffed every summer. The cupola cabin’s exterior has been an ongoing preservation project, and is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register.
Scope of Work: HistoriCorps will rehabilitate the historic fire lookout by repairing and restoring the cab, building and installing windows on-site, and replacing railings.
Dates: July 18 – 29, 2011
