Location: 217 Eureka St. Central City, CO, 80427 Gilpin County

History: Fredrick McFarlane purchased The McFarlane House in 1930 from the original owners. Ida, Fred and his second wife, Lillian Cushing, hosted countless receptions and dinners during the Opera Festival season at this address. The property was sold to Justin Brierly, business manager for Central City Opera House Association, in 1942 and donated to the Colorado Historical Society in 1976 to be used by the Association during the Festival season by directors, producers or special guests only.

Scope of Work: The main objectives are to cut down all trees and bushes along west elevation of the house. Excavate 6” below top of foundation (soil conditions permitting) and grade away from building establishing a shallow trench evenly spaced between the building and the retaining wall. The trench will be approximately 50’ long. Remove two sections of loose and failing dry-stacked stone along the west retaining wall and remove one section of loose and failing stone along the north retaining wall, remove fill. Restack the failed retaining wall sections mimicking the size and design of the existing wall, back fill using soils onsite. Evaluate and document north retaining wall and the north addition to develop a basic maintenance/repair schedule. Participants Will Learn To: • Landscape surroundings • Remove and restack wall • Evaluate and document wall to develop maintenance schedules
