“Do It.”

“Do It.”

A letter from volunteer Remy Buxton, after his first time volunteering with HistoriCorps at the 2020 IOOF Cabins project in Deschutes National Forest, OR.

To all of you who might be considering volunteering with Historicorps, I have two words for you, do it.

There are many reasons why these volunteer opportunities provide such a valuable and inspiring experience, and perhaps the most important is the people. You will, no doubt, meet and work with a unique group of volunteers who will provide insightful perspectives on the project, each based on their own diverse background. The kind of work that Historicorps volunteers get to participate in provides a great chance to learn and practice hands-on restoration skills while simultaneously encouraging the whole team to collaboratively solve restoration-based problems. Each new day on a project presents new challenges and learning opportunities that will leave a lasting impression, not only on you as a volunteer, but also on the little piece of our history which you will have helped to preserve.

If you are looking for a chance to learn about historic preservation, travel to beautiful historic sites, meet interesting new people, and work on informative and fulfilling projects, then I can not recommend volunteering for Historicorps highly enough!
